   Alerce Wood Shakes

- Available only in Chile for now -

Alerce trees only grow in the south of Chile and Argentina.

One of the oldest trees alive in the world, is one of them, with more than 5,000 years old.

400 years of over exploitation, drastically reduced the number of these individuals, and now, because of that, it is a species protected by Chilean laws.

This work used reclaimed wood shakes, from walls or roofs from old buildings , in a delicate process that transform these old pieces in one of a kind objects, with a beautiful background history in every one of them.

Obliqua tries to combine wood work and a small contribution to the reforestation of native trees of the Valdivian Rainforest, especially  Alerce.

Each piece of wood stolen from a lake bottom, or from a walk through the forest, is compensated with a planted tree in the city or its surroundings.

It is a small attempt to repopulate and coexist with this ancient species that occupied these territories long before industrialization manufactured them.
