Obliqua   ( O · Blik ·Wa )

     Sculptural/Lighting studio,
based between Chile and
Philadelphia, USA.
Owned and operated by Javier López Cabello  (Chilean, b. 1977).
  Trained as an Architect, and
curious about mysterious natural formations since childhood.
With photography as a hobby and outdoor activities as an excuse to find new pieces of wood.
        ...supply is everywhere.

What started as a hobby began to consume all my free time.
Now that I've moved to Philly, this hobby has become a full-time job.

Obliqua is a Studio/Project that tries to work with abandoned pieces of wood -REMAINS- , found in forest, lakes, rivers, cities, demolition sites, free diving, trekking, etc.

Based between Puerto Varas, Chile and Philadelphia, USA, the work pieces are a subtractive process, as an attempt to achieve a manipulated erosion, like when "time" is imprinted on materials , to bring unique pieces with immersive mathematical designs in them.

The goal is to preserve  the remains of those forgotten beautiful trees, that once lived in this world and give them a second beautiful life.

All this work is inspired in natural patterns that you can find everywhere.

Photography is a medium to study them and understand  patterns hidden under an apparent chaos.
